AC Milan continue their Serie A season this weekend when they welcome Empoli to the San Siro. The Italian giants could potentially move up to second in the standings with a home win on Sunday.
It has been a professional season to this point for AC Milan, and they already appear on course to achieve a Champions League finish. The Italian giants have recorded victories in three of their last five matches, and they are currently just a point behind Juventus in the race for second. However, it appears incredibly unlikely that they will get any closer to Inter in the race for the title.
Milan’s recent form is impressive, and it has enabled them to remain clear of the chasing pack for a Champions League finish. They continued their excellent recent run of results with a 1-0 success in Rome against Lazio last Friday. They struck late to secure maximum points in that fixture, with Noah Okafor finding the net with two minutes remaining.
Empoli will also come into the weekend with something to prove, as they remain in danger of suffering relegation this term. At present, they sit two points clear of the drop zone, but they will take confidence from their recent form in the competition when compared to their rivals.
The Italian side have won two of their last four, and they have suffered just one defeat in their last five matches. However, it could be challenging to overlook the fact that their defeat over this sequence was suffered in their previous fixture in Serie A against Cagliari. But, they could have the attacking threat to pose questions of Milan this weekend.
Milan boasts an excellent record in this fixture after winning five of their last six league matches against Empoli. Over that period, they have dropped to just one draw, although, that did come in this exact fixture last term. Empoli’s latest win against Milan was recorded at the San Siro in April 2017.
Milan have stuttered in home matches against Empoli in recent seasons, and that would be a concern ahead of this fixture. However, it remains hard to back against the home side from claiming maximum points in this fixture at the San Siro on Sunday.
